How to Base Your Warhammer Miniatures with Gamers Grass

How to base you Warhammer Miniatures with Gamers Grass

Gamers Grass products are a high-quality and easy way to transform your miniature bases from “meh” to “yeah!”

With a huge variety of grasses, plants, tufts, and basing bits covering everything from realistic forests to alien landscapes, the possibilities are nearly endless when decorating your models.

Getting the Base Ready

Let's start by building some texture onto the base. Today we will be using AK's Diorama Terrain Muddy Ground to create a wet forest-themed floor.

Use a Texture Spreader to distribute it over the base. Don’t worry about smoothing it perfectly — the uneven texture adds depth and realism to the finished base.

Applying basing material to base

Once dry, apply a heavy drybrush of Rhinox Hide, followed by a lighter drybrush of Mournfang Brown, then finish with a very light drybrush of Karak Stone.

In our example we have used AK Diorama - Puddles to create a small water feature that helps bring the base to life and gives us another element to build around.

Adding Some Gamers Grass Basing Bits

Once the ground texture and painting are complete, we can move on to adding our Gamers Grass details.

For this model, we'll start off with Gamers Grass Basing Bits - Gnarled Branches, and Basing Bits - Forest Mushrooms

Give these pieces a quick prime with Chaos Black before applying your chosen colours. Don’t be afraid to experiment — vibrant mushrooms or unusual bark tones can help reinforce the atmosphere of your terrain.

Adding Some Gamers Grass Plants

Next, it’s time to add some greenery. Using super glue to secure the plants to the base, a pair of tweezers can be incredibly useful for precise placement.

For this model, we have used the following:

After placing the plants, apply some moss-green paint around the joins to help blend everything naturally into the terrain. Start with a darker green and finish with a lighter green drybrush to create smooth colour transitions and extra depth.

Placing the finished Maleceptor model onto the base shows how effectively Gamers Grass products help blend the miniature and terrain into your chosen colour palette.
